The
narrator (Amir) said that “I became what
I am today at the age of twelve in the frigid overcast day in the winter of
1975. On this day, he did many things. One day last summer, his friend Rahim
Khan called from Pakistan. Rahim Khan asked Amir to meet him. After the call,
he walks through the place he lives, San Francisco, he saw two kites hanging
there with the quote “There is a way to be good again,” which Rahim Khan said
before he hung up.
Amir
has a friend name Hassan, were childhood friends. They both have many experiences
together during that time. Hassan’s dad work for Amir’s dad (Baba), his mom
left after he was born. Amir’s dad is a wealthy person which he owns the property
in northern Kabul. Amir’s dad is one of
the richest merchant in Kabul , he owns many businesses like orphanage, a
restaurant, and a carpet-exporting business. Baba’s dad was a judge and he
adopted the boy along with his son. The orphan was Ali. Hassan and Ali are servants
in Baba’s home.At the end of the chapter, Amir says that suddenly Afghanistan changed forever. During the
conversation between Amir and Hassan, there was a gunshot. They were stopped by
Assef, their neighborhood friend. Assef told them that Hitler was a great
leader and they should get rid of the Hazara. At the end of this chapter,
Hassan’s was 12 years old and Baba arranged the doctor to fix his lip with a
plastic surgeon.
