Summary Pg.201-250

Amir now enters Afghanistan with the help of Farid. Farid doesn’t like Amir at first because he thought that the only reason that Amir return to Afghanistan to sell off property and make money. Farid bring Amir to Wahid’s house, he is served a dinner. While eating, Amir told Wahid and his family that he has to return to Afghanistan in order to rescue his brother’s son. 

Amir enters Kabul and he was shocked by the destruction and begging children. Amir and Farid is finding the place where Sohrab is living. Amir asks the director to help him find Sohrab by referring to his skills with the slingshot. After the director allows Farid and Amir in, he regretfully informs Amir that a Talib Official had come to the orphanage and bought Sohrab. After that, the director tells Amir and Farid to go to Ghazi stadium and look for the Talib official with the black sunglasses, those people know where Sohrab is.

 Amir and Farid visit Amir’s childhood place before they will go to Ghazi stadium to find the official who bought Sohrab. The stadium is filled with people. Amir goes in alone to see the official. Sohrab is dressed almost like a court jester, wearing make-up, and forced to dance. Amir realizes that the official is actually Assef. Assef beats Amir badly, breaking his nose and teeth. The fight ends when Sohrab points his slingshot at Assef. His shot takes out Assef’s eye. Sohrab helps Amir out of the house. After that , Farid drives them away.

Amir wakes up two days later in a hospital with a broken jaw and other injuries. Rahim Khan has left the town, leaving a letter for Amir. He tells Amir that he should forgive himself for what happened to Hassan and he should also forgive Baba someday.Rahim Khan also leaves his money in a safe deposit box for Amir. Amir needs to leave soon because the Taliban are looking for him. Amir takes him to Islamabad. Amir wakes up one night and Sohrab is gone. He looked for him by the mosque. Sohrab is ashamed of what Assef did to him, Amirs offers to take him to live with him in America. A man at the American Embassy in Islamabad says adopting Sohrab is impossible, due to the fact that Amir would need death certificates of his parents. He needs to prove that Sohrab is really his half nephew. 

Amir enters to talk with Sohrab, but Sohrab has cut one of his wrists with a razorblade. Amir was still screaming after the ambulance arrived. Sohrab tries to commit suicide rather than be put in an orphanage. He survies, but he wanted to die. Amir and Sohrab go home to America. At a party held by the American Afghan community, Amir buys Sohrab a kite. Both of them kite fight together, just as he and Hassan had done years earlier. Amir is Sohrab’s kite runner, from that time Sohrab smiles at him.

Summary Pg. 150-200

In March of 1981, Amir and Baba leave Kabul. They do this because spies for the Russian soldiers are everywhere. They are headed for Pakistan.At the border, they are stopped by soldiers. In the basement, they meet Kamal and his father, friends from Kabul. Kamal was raped just like Hassan. All of the rufugees was transported to Pakistan, Kamal died during this trip.

Baba and Amir settled in Fremont, California. Amir begins to talk to Soraya. Then Amir stops talking to her, the reason is because of Soraya’s father who finds them talking together in the market. Amir gave Soraya one story but her dad threw them away. Baba was diagnosed with a lung cancer, he refused to have a treatment. Days later, Baba arranges the marriage between Soraya and Amir but Soraya doesn’t want to marry him.

Amir and Soraya are married. She moves to live with Amir because Baba was sick. Baba died in a month after. Amir finally finished his first novel in 1988, a year later, a book was released. Amir and Soraya, have a Cocker Spaniel, named Aflatoo they said, “that if you looked hard enough into the dog’s black eye’s that you’d swear he was thinking wise thoughts.” Amir told Soraya to visit Pakistan to visit Rahim Khan, who is very sick. Amir believes that there is a secret between Rahim Khan and him. Amir finally decided to visit Rahim Khan at Pakistan.

Amir arrives at Pakistan. He meets Rahim Khan, Rahim Khan told Amir about the unbearable life of Afghans under Taliban rule. Rahim Khan was happy at first when the Taliban defeated the Russian soldiers because he thought life in Kabul would be better than before. Rahim Khan found Hassan in 1986. Hassan was married. Ali was killed by a land mine. Hassan and his wife decided to move with Rahim Khan. Hassan taught his son to be a kite runner.

Amir asks Rahim Khan about Hassan. Rahim Khan gave him a picture of Rahim Khan and a letter. In the letter, Hassan wrote about living under Taliban rule and his family. A month after Rahim Khan left to Pakistan, Taliban officers came to take their house. Hassan and his family were killed. After that, Rahim Khan asks Amir to go to Kabul and bring 10 year old Sohrab with him. Amir feels betrayed. He feel that Baba was a thief because his brother dishonoured Ali. Amir decides to go to Kabul.

Summary 50-100

During the winter months, the schools of Kabul are closed. Playing kites are a popular there. Kites are only interest that Amir and Baba shared together. At Kabul, there is a kite-fighting tournament. Baba brings Amir and Baba to Saifo to get the kite. Hassan was the best kite runner among them.

Amir play a kite fight and he won as his dad watches him. Amir plans to present his kite to Baba as a trophy. Amir was looking for Hassan to take the kite and compete with him.  They started to beat Hassan as Amir was hiding behind the wall, he is too afraid to come. Later, Hassan met Hassan and pretending that he doesn’t know what happened. Hassan gives Amir the kite. Then Amir gives the kites to Baba.

For a long time, Amir barely saw Hassan. Ali came and asks if Amir knows what happened the night of the kite fight, Amir didn’t replied.  Baba showed up a lot of interest in Amir and he brings him to the movies with his loads of friends going along. Hassan tried to be friendly with Amir again, but Amir ignored him. Amir asks his dad if he could have new servants. Amir tries to start a pomegranate fight with Hassan, but Hassan rejected him. 

 Baba held a thirteenth birthday party for Amir. Amir received many gifts.

Amir doesn’t want to live with Hassan anymore, he make up a story that Hassan stole his birthday money and gift to Baba.  Hassan admits   that he steal to protect Amir. Amir knows that Hassan knew that Amir was hiding behind the wall instead of helping him. Ali tells Baba that they’re leaving, then Baba beg them to stay but it doesn’t work.
